The Myadel region is located in the north-west of the Minsk oblast. The region borders on the Postavy and Dokshitsy regions of the Vitebsk oblast, the Ostrovets and Smorgon regions of the Grodno oblast, the Vileika region of the Minsk oblast. The Myadel region was founded in 1940. In 1960, the region became part of the Minsk oblast. The total area of the Myadel region is 196,700 hectares including 105,700 hectares which are part of the Narochansky National Park. The park includes 52 lakes and 82,000 hectares of forests.
The Myadel region is located in the Naroch-Vileika lowland. There are several groups of lakes in the region: the Naroch group of lakes, the Myadel group, the Svir and Bolduk groups of lakes. The biggest lake is the lake of Naroch. Its total area is 79.6 square kilometres, the length of the coast line is around 41 kilometers, the average depth is 9 metres, the maximum depth is 24.8 meters. The rivers Stracha, Narochanka, Uzlyanka, Servach, Drobnya and Myadelka run through the territory of the Myadel region.
The population of the Myadel region is 28 092 people.
